What is dynamic assisted stretching?

Everyone knows stretching is good for them, and has lots of benefits such as improving posture, increasing flexibility and aiding muscle recovery.

In dynamic assisted stretching (also known as stretch therapy) a stretch therapist helps you stretch using a variety of te

chniques in a safe way. You can stretch further than on your own but safely. A bit like a good yoga session but you get

to lie on a comfy, warm massage couch while I stretch you out.

Modern life is tough on our bodies

It can be hard to find the time and motivation to stretch in an already busy life. Our modern lives are spent sat down (and often stressed at the same time); driving, commuting and on computers leading to tight, achy necks, shoulders, backs and legs.

A stretch therapy session will help ease tightness, increase flexibility, help muscle imbalances, improve posture and enhance recovery after exercise.

Techniques used

Techniques include passive and dynamic stretches, gentle tractions, joint mobilisations and Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF). I’ll write more on these later if you’d like to learn about them.

Does it hurt?

Absolutely not! You’ll feel a good stretch but not pain. And you’re in charge, it’s never “No pain, no gain”.

The experience is relaxing, but quite energising too. A bit like having a massage, although you probably won’t fall asleep. So if you feel you need a treatment but you need to go back to work after and don’t want the post-massage sleepiness this might be for you.

But I’m not flexible

You don’t have to be. We’ll work together to get you to become more flexible. There’s no judgment or comparison with other people, this is done individually in my massage therapy room. We’ll have a thorough consultation before to assess what you need and create goals.

Who is this for?

Please don’t think this is just for athletes and sporty people. Anyone can benefit. Maybe you’re aware of an imbalance or tightness in your body, or you’ve been carrying a toddler on a hip and one leg feels longer that the other! Or your routine has been: drive to work; sit at a computer all day; drive home, evening chores and then eventually getting to relax with Netflix leaving no time to move and stretch out your tight lower back.

What do I wear?

Stretchy clothes, like leggings or tracksuit bottoms and a t-shirt. Anything that you can easily move in.
